Phillip Yaffa

I am an animal lover. I love all kinds of animals: dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, ferrets, goldfish, etc. So I was fortunate to have an unusual pet accepted, when I was a child.

Grew I am in Los Angeles, one day he went home from school saw what looked like a little brown ball of string on the sidewalk. When he bent down and have it removed, they saw this is the fact that the child may have fallen Sparrow from somewhere. Considered looked in the nest, but I could not find so I'm at home.

It seemed that no more several days, I believe, could survive. We decided to try it. We fed him curious and opened its beak drip paste diluted with milk. Became stronger, so then tried to empty supply of eggs. And growing.

We call him Charlie. We believe that the introduction of wild birds in cells, so that his house was a shoebox. Despite , after a few weeks, it becomes in natural thing starts to fly. Initial it was only a short distance of one chair to another. But then began circling room.

We knew the inevitable day when we need to let it go now closed. Offered for the unenviable task. So One morning I was in my hand and walked away. Opened hands. He remained there for several seconds, seemed to be trying to solve. He flew away.

If you know the United States, then you know that in many places, telephone lines are under land, however, columns, high above. While walking to school, I saw hundreds of sparrows Meeting of telephone cables. The device called "Charlie!" Suddenly one of them went down the cable and fell on my shoulder. Sure 'm sure other sparrows were amazed and I was satisfied.

This began a regular practice. Every morning I am Charlie, and let it your friends. But tonight, he will fly through telephone cables on the shoulder. We must go inside, where to eat, then spend night flying around the room before will finally sleep in his shoe box.

I can not express what a wonderful experience of living with this sparrow. But here are some examples.

Somehow, Charlie seemed know when to get up for school. Usually just before 7 o'clock, I feel walking on forehead, as if to say: "Wake up. We do! "

Anything else about him: He Charlie loves pears. I discovered one day that literally dive bomb, I have a piece of fruit they ate. After what we did differently. I will give a piece of pear in my mouth, and he peck on her while she is small enough to go with it.

But the best is when my homework reading or just watching TV. Charlie will fall on my shoulder, my neck and go to sleep. You can not imagine how nice is that it is hot, fluffy meat pulse in her neck.

This continued about three or four months. But one day, when I got home from school, called "Charlie!" and nothing happened. I called, Charlie, still nothing. Third time: "Charlie!" I went into the house, but every 15 or 20 minutes went outside and try again. "Charlie!" Still nothing. I did all night, and several times this morning before I had to go to school.

I've never seen Charlie again. Wait I thought she met people with soul and had to fly to live together like sparrows.

To live Charlie was an unusual experience and memories still fresh. As my friend says sometimes when we open restaurant and there sparrows gather crumbs of bread I can not resist. I call softly: "Carl?" Charlie? "

Course no did not happen, and I know I never will. My Charlie indelible meeting took nearly 50 years. But since information: All hope no matter how vain or unlikely it is better than no hope. So I still do. Every so often, eat when I go on board to monitor sparrows, Charlie? " Charlie? Oh … Charlie. "
